Sir Brighflight (Villainous Oc)
Name:Â Benedict Brighflight
DOB: May 15th
Abilities: Sword fighting skills; Magical sword user; Magical armor; Magical shield
Age: early 30's
Residence: Roundlot CityÂ
Ethnicity: Caucasian-AmericanÂ
Occupation: Knight; Superhero
Resident: Sir Roland Brighflight (ancestor)
Headcannon Voice Actor: Chris Diamantopoulos (English); José Gilberto Vilchis (Spanish)
Personality: On the surface he might look like a noble knight from a history of heroes, but in reality he is an arrogant blowhard who emphasizes too much of his family history to get away with a lot of stuff. He also isn't above using the good perception of his family to get privileges. He often belittles those who he sees as just help to him and as a result has little to endured himself to Green Rod. He hates anyone who outshines him and dislikes it when Green Rod is able to really get to shine because he thinks the sidekick must always be secondary to the big hero. He also thinks nothing of the truth of his family history and thinks it's even justified since they wouldn't be heroes without getting the blood to enchant their armor. He also is prejudice against dragons and think it's justified killing them with no warning.Â
Background: A superhero from a long clan of knights he upholds the image of his family in modern times by going against the dragon clan called the Drakeflame who have a long rivalry with one another. He currently is archnemesis with the latest line of the Drakeflame clan, Asher. He is the protector of Roundlot City and is heavily praised by its citizens. Green Rod was paired up with him but despite at first being excited she grew to learn firsthand how much of a jerk he was and how he often mistreated her. Her dislike of him grew when she learned that his family rivalry was started because his family killed a youngling of the Drakeflame family to enchant their equipment and were able to kill the mother when she retaliated against them. And worst part of all he knew about the truth but still thinks his family was justified in doing so. This caused her to quit being his sidekick especially after she couldn't tell people his family history was a lie.Â
* His family was originally from England but later moved to America where one of his ancestors founded Roundlot City.Â
* The Drakeflame would soon follow the family to Roundlot to continue their rivalry.Â
* He is friends with Blackwood.Â
* He likes to attend medieval fairs and actually is very acknowledgeable about medieval history.Â
* He is a big fan of King Arthur lore.Â

[Image: a reply to this post from @cinnamonrollsanddonutholes that says, "Can we see the haul? đź‘€" /end ID]
Yeah! I was focused on the southwest Asia and (northern) Africa region because it's relevant to my field of study:
[Image: a stack of books whose titles are below. end ID]
Between Past and Present: Archeology, Ideology, and Nationalism in the Modern Middle East by Neil Asher Silberman
Digging For God and Country: Exploration, Archeology, and the Secret Struggle for the Holy Land by Neil Asher Silberman
Physical Science in the Middle Ages by Edward Grant
(I'm interested in the transmission of scientific knowledge through the translation of Ancient Greek texts into Arabic and then European languages, so I'm hoping the above book will go into it a little more than my history class has)
Africa Since 1800 by Roland Oliver and Anthony Atmore
(This edition was published in the late 1960s, so I will be keeping its outdatedness in mind when reading it, but African history is a big gap in my knowledge that I would like to start filling in)
God's Crucible: Islam and the Making of Europe, 570 to 1215 by David Levering Lewis
The World of Ancient Israel: Sociological, Anthropological, and Political Perspectives edited by R. E. Clements
Like I said, idk if they're good? I'll have my critical thinking cap on while reading them? But two dollars a book was an offer I couldn't refuse.
Also my free time is limited and there's a few other items on my to read list ahead of these, so I may not get to any of them until winter break lol
highlight of the day was checking out the history library's benefit sale and walking away with 6 books for $11 with tentative plans to pop in tomorrow to see if there's anything left when they drop the prices to half off
#i'll keep y'all posted probably#if that 'what is everyone reading?' post comes around again lol#thanks for asking!! đź’ś#talk tag#books#for future reading#if anyone has read any of these#and has thoughts and insights#my dms are always open!!

With all the work done by Roland Fryer, Lyell Asher, Arthur Levine, Richard Pondiscio, Karen Chenoweth, Rita Kramer and many more, America has everything it needs to fix its education woes - from K through to colleges, and all the way up to the heads of the beast, the Ed Schools and the college administrators. Much of it is absurdly simple and common sense (e.g. teaching kids to read the way that works, rather than based on an ideology). They have the evidence, the statistics and they've even put it into practice and measured the results.
"You know, we really gotta think about this gap here. Because there's like a white-black gap going on. I'm not sure why you guys can't actually achieve." -- Roland Fryer
Something no Woke program can do or will do. To even suggest that its success should be demonstrable and measurable - such as via standardized testing, for example - is itself problematic. Like any religious claims, there is a moral obligation to simply accept its necessity as truths, based on faith.
Knowing what to do isn't the problem.
The problem is that what needs to be done is extremely practical and pragmatic, and not politically sexy. It's not conducive to hashtags, icon overlays, acronyms or slogans. And it's particularly not conducive to performative white absolution.
The problem is that what needs to be done speaks not to the fashionable boogeyman of "systemic racism" or "white supremacy" but to what amounts to educational malpractice.
The problem is having the backbone to reject the "equity" activism demands by the same people who created the problem in the first place.

asher, as a child, was silent. he did not speak, often refraining himself from quick-witted remarks or insults, and did not make a habit of speaking to adults -- of the forrester brood or not. he was silenced, he did not believe that his voice would be listen to, and thus often found solace in his sister mira. riddled by the self-conscious thoughts of being the second-son; asher worked more on his skills than his words: war, reading, sketching. while he followed the role of a highborn in learning, and that of an up-and-coming warrior, he did so in silence until his young-teens. ( then he became confident, allowed his anger and woes to seep out with quick retorts and insults; confidence lead to expression, the reason asher stays so genuine and true to his emotions as he ages )
of course, his silence was not bought with anger or distrust of his parents. no-- asher forrester had been a selective mute as a young lad, maester’s had worried the baby was completely a mute ( dull, a product of low-intelligence; none of which asher was true to ).Â
#when he thinks he's almost forgotten [ headcanon ]#[[ theres a line roland says ]]#[[ 'you dont say much do you lad? thats good reminds me of your brother asher' ]]#[ [so i decided to poke around my brain ]]

Lydia Trevelyan: Bio
Born 9:14 at her family’s estate in Ostwick, Lydia Rowena Theodosia Trevelyan was the second child of Maksim Trevelyan and Theodosia Fraser Trevelyan. Her father’s family hailed originally from Nevarra before moving to Ostwick, Maksim’s title as Bann passing from his grandfather. Known for their mounts prized throughout the Free Marches, Maksim traveled to South Reach Ferelden in his twenties to observe the Bann’s farmlands there. He met Theodosia, daughter of the Bann, and they soon fell in love and agreed to wed. When they settled at the Ostwick estate, the sea view far different than the plains and mountains of Ferelden, Theodosia soon had a son, Aiden. Five years passed, and before Theodosia thought Aiden would be her only, she found out she would have another child. She named her Lydia after a queen of an “old forgotten isle whose story she read when she was a child,” giving her her grandmother’s middle name and her mother’s name as well, as per Nevarran tradition.Â
Growing up, Theodosia was more hands on with Lydia, as Maksim saw Aiden as the one to take over the estate one day. Lydia thought her mother as warm while her father was more distant, though he always managed to dance with her at least once a week. Even at her young age, she proved to be an apt dancer. Her favorite place however was her mother’s garden, the jasmine plants and rose bushes fragrant and vibrant. In the spring and Summer her mother would take her there almost every day. Sometimes too, her mother took her to the beach, where Lydia learned to swim. One day, her mother promised to take her to Ferelden.
When Aiden was thirteen he left for a Nevarran boarding school. Lydia was eight years old, roaming the grounds during a family party when she saw her mother in the stables with one of her father’s friends, Roland. He raised his voice at her, and she was so frightened that she remembered what her mother told her: the strength to overcome is inside you. Fire pooled from her fingertips and burning down her family’s stables and injuring Roland, though Theodosia wasn’t hurt. The templars were called the next day.
Her mother promised she would write, visit as often as she could even. Lydia always talked about her mother coming and taking her away. That, and mentioning she was named after an old forgotten queen of old made the other apprentices think her stuck up, though the First Enchanter Penelope had a fondness for her, and even the Knight Commander found her quiet strength endearing. The others also made comments about how small the Circle robes fit her, and how bigger sizes had to be made for her, leaving her embarrassed. She was also mocked for not using her fire magic, and in fact the other mages, Linnea among them, used to try to make her angry enough to get her to use her fire. It never worked.Â
Despite this she had one dear friend in the Circle, an elf originally from the Ostwick Alienage named Willa, and the two often exchanged books with one another to read. One book was called The Highlander series, about a Ferelden knight named Arthur Dayne. One day when she was twenty-one, after she passed her Harrowing, a new templar called Asher came to Ostwick that looked a bit like Arthur Dayne. He waved and smiled at her, a small kindness she wasn’t used to. She saw him more often, smiling at her, even kneeling by her side in the chantry to pray with her, though her version of “praying” was to chant blessed are the peacekeepers over and and over again under her breath to make it look like she was pious, when the truth of the matter was she couldn’t understand how Andraste or the Maker saw it right to make her and other like her a caged bird. Her mother prayed once, but her mother didn’t write to her or come to her like she said she would. Then one day in the Circle library, Asher came to her and kissed her. On and off, they saw each other after that moment. they barely had time to talk, but he did tell her he hated being a templar, hated needing to rely on the lyrium. hated the chantry. He wanted to take her away and live with her in a cabin by the sea.
When Lydia was twenty-four they were found out--right when the Chantry explosion happened in Kirkwall. Asher was sent away and Lydia was shamed--though the First enchanter’s favor kept tranquility out of the question. She grew moody, depressed, stopped eating and often slept. When the Circles dissolved in the interim Ostwick remained neutral, though some mages like Linnea opted to leave. Lydia chose to leave as well, taking only a small knapsack with a few bottles of lyrium. She was cast aside by her father, who told her her mother had passed a year prior. Devastated, she made her way back to the Circle where rogue templars intercepted her. One scarred her across her chest. Asher saved her before the other could scar her across the cheek. He begged her for her lyrium, and though she remembered what he told her about it, she gave it to him anyway.Â
Once back at the Circle, she found it had been ransacked by rogue templars and mages alike--those who were dissatisfied with Ostwick’s neutrality. Clarence, Willa’s lover, was killed in one of the frays, and after Willa found out she was pregnant, Lydia volunteered to go to the rumored conclave. At the Ostwick port, no boat captain would take her--they all knew about the mage with the long, dark hair and vibrant sea blue eyes. All except one captain, a woman named Isabela. Once in Ferelden, her mother’s home, she couldn’t appreciate it.Â
Asher met her at the conclave. He begged her not to go in. She did anyway.Â
#lydia trevelyan#I finally wrote her pre Inquisition bio lol#FINALLY#it's alluded to in the fic#bits and pieces#but I finally wrote it out proper
